CIBLER (2008) was the first work created by Karine Ledoyen under the name of the Danse K par K company, and has toured fifteen cities in Quebec, with a premier in Great Britain.
With Karine Ledoyen we have become accustomed to scintillating and rather playful pieces and here she gives us a new colour without losing her fresh approach. Atmospheres of awkwardness and discomfort saturated in breathtaking rhythm where complex and lively gestures follow one after another until the last breath. At times references are made to the three Parques sisters, who are among the leading divinities of man’s fate. For each mortal, they grant a measure of life, of which they regulate the duration, the first by spinning wool (birth), the second by winding thread (the cycle of life) and the third by cutting it (death). The show is rich in symbolism and remains close to what it aims at (cibler in French): the human state with all its strengths and weaknesses.
A punchy piece, with aesthetics of hallucinating beauty and strong images, Cibler achieves its goal of touching on what is universal in all of us.
– Gagnon-Paradis, Voir, April 2008
We are bathed in a rich subject, one that links the fragility of existence to the great mythological system… she (Karine Ledoyen) knows how to develop partitions of movements that cover a vast register of intensity, going from sensual stillness to moments that are completely explosive…
– Patrick Caux, Le Devoir, April 16, 2008
Cibler is a profound work of great intensity.
