The world premiere was presented by the La Rotonde – Centre chorégraphique de Québec from January 19 to 21, 2011 and on January 22, 2011.

In the company of four dancers, Karine Ledoyen started a new creation inspired this time by the invisible matter of air, an intangible element that the Choreographer wanted to make visible, tangible and sonorous. Following Julio and Romette (2006) and Cibler (2008), Karine Ledoyen went deeper with Air, a choreographic research based on the passing of time.

We slip into a space-time where it is difficult to know if the present is now, yesterday or tomorrow and where fantasy, fear, love, hate and poetry come to life. We descend to an underground world where the air may run out. The piece pulls us into a whirlwind of parallel universes where we are captivated by the poetry of images. Gestural language, which oscillates between lightness and gravity, is dressed in surprising textures and forms.

Karine Ledoyen returns to treated video here as a light source, where the dancers’ bodies, a stage design composed of objects and the void serve as a receptacle. The choreographer combined video with her choreographies at the beginning of her career, with her first show Laque created in 2002.

With Air you can create a vacuum by stretching time, which offers a space to exist otherwise. – KL
