Description:
How does one reinvent oneself after a passionate career? When do we decide to stop? Does life decide for us? Is the flame that once consumed us still burning? Choreographer Karine Ledoyen set out to meet professional performers who have stepped away from the stage.
I thought I was beginning a project about grief, and as a starting point I wanted to draw inspiration from the stories of dancers who had left the profession. But after listening to all the interviews — dancers from different generations, from ballet to contemporary to social dance — I realized that the theme emerging above all was a celebration of dance.
— Karine Ledoyen
The Alphabet Book
Texts recomposed by dramaturg Katya Montaignac from interviews conducted with 26 dancers who have left the professional stage. This eponymous collection offers a way to share, parallel to and complementary with the performance, the richness of the testimonies that nourished the artistic team throughout the entire creation process.
Confidences, fragments of life, introspections: these lived experiences form a space of reflection and memory for dance.
The Podcast
After serving as choreographic material for the creation of De la glorieuse fragilité, the precious words of the artists are now being shared with the public. Presented as six episodes woven with archival material and poetry, the full interviews conducted by Karine Ledoyen are unveiled in their entirety. A co-production of Danse K par K and Espace Perreault Transmissions chorégraphiques. Directed by: Catherine-Eve Gadoury and Karine Ledoyen.
