Following Julio et Romette (2006) and Cibler (2008), Karine Ledoyen deepens with Air a choreographic exploration rooted in the passage of time.

We slip into a space-time where it becomes difficult to know whether the present is now, yesterday or tomorrow, and where fantasy, fear, love, hatred and poetry come to life. We descend into an underground world where air might begin to run out. The piece draws us into a whirlwind of parallel universes, where we are captivated by the poetry of its images. The movement vocabulary, oscillating between lightness and weight, is dressed in surprising textures and forms.

Karine Ledoyen reconnects with video, treated here as a luminous source projected onto the dancers’ bodies, the object-based scenography and the surrounding emptiness. Early in her career, the choreographer combined video with her choreographic works, as seen in her first production, Laque, created in 2002.

With Air, a void is created by stretching time, opening a space in which to exist differently.
